About Me
Dr. Jordana Waxman is a Clinical and Health Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. She works with children, teens, and families in both her private practice and as a staff psychologist at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. At SickKids, she is helping to develop the General Health Psychology Clinic, which will provide integrated mental health support for children and families receiving care throughout the hospital. Her previous roles included working in the Outpatient Psychiatry Program, where she supported children and youth with mood, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and somatic symptom and related disorders. She also worked in the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service, supporting families during inpatient stays on medical and surgical units.
Dr. Waxman has experience in pediatric hospitals, community mental health settings, and private practice. She works with young people and caregivers facing emotional and behavioural concerns, as well as concerns that involve both physical and mental health (health psychology). This includes helping children and teens adjust to medical diagnoses, manage chronic illness, cope with medical procedures, address feeding and eating difficulties, and navigate physical symptoms that affect daily life, among other concerns.
She is known for her warm, supportive, and collaborative style. Dr. Waxman takes the time to understand each child’s unique situation including their physical health, emotions, family life, and social world. She works together with families to create treatment plans that fit each child’s needs.
Her approach combines evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). She also offers parent coaching and is a certified Circle of Security Parenting facilitator.
Dr. Waxman believes in working closely with families, schools, doctors, and other professionals to support meaningful and lasting change for each child and family.
